Knauf Insulation are looking to recruit a NPD Technician to join our NPD / Innovation team in St Helens. The role purpose will be to support the Product Development Manager in the execution of the laboratory testing responsibilities of the Innovation Department. To develop detailed knowledge and experience of Knauf Insulation products and how they are tested whilst providing support to our other central teams. The role will include a vast amount of travel both UK and overseas. A full UK driving license is essential.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Carry out laboratory testing to support product development projects in both Blowing Wool and Cured product ranges.

• Carry out benchmarking programs to characterise insulation materials using established EN standard methodology or specific customer requirements.

• Report results accurately and in a timely fashion to line manager.

• Support plant trials of new product developments as necessary.

• Carry out routine maintenance and housekeeping tasks within the maintenance and upkeep program of the UK Innovation laboratories.

• Adhere to laboratory Continuous Improvement programs.

Testing to be carried out to national and international standards and results will be measured against these.

 Presentations to internal and external customers to demonstrate results and developments

Role challenges:

 Completing multiple projects at one time.

Changing and prioritising of projects at any time.

 The role involves physically challenging tasks in numerous different environments – laboratory, factory and customer sites.

Knowledge and experience:

• University level qualification is essential and in a science discipline is preferred.

• To be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point and generally exhibit good data manipulation and data reporting skills. Ability to use Statistical tools (such as Minitab) would be an advantage.

Demonstrate an openness to Innovation and technical creativity.

• The candidate will be flexible, autonomous, with the ability to take initiatives, identify immediate priorities, manage working time and have a resilient personality.

• Candidates will be English speaking: any other language, especially French, would be an advantage.

Existing qualifications held in FLT and Crane operation would be an advantage yet not essential.

To be able to demonstrate good practical tool based skills would an advantage.

Driving license is essential.
