We are looking to recruit a Industrial Digital Engineer (Glass Mineral Wool, Rock Mineral
Wool, Wood Wool). The ideal candidate will be based in our Head Office in St Helens.
Working with the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in building analytical capabilities and implementing digital projects locally. You will be responsible for building out data analysis, data models, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes, and machine learning models based on best practices developed by and under supervision of the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Using the tools developed and maintained, such as but not limited to Dremio, Prefect, Data Lakes and Databases, OSI PI. Participates in sharing projects globally across the Knauf organization. Travel to support and implement project up to 50% of the working time is required.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
• Plans and leads Data Engineering, Advanced Analytics, and Data Science projects. Coordinates project cooperation with internal partners and the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
• Ensures implementation of Data Engineering, Advanced Analytics, and Data Science projects on plant systems.
• Develop algorithms, predictive models, and dashboards that leverage data from Dremio and other data systems, in order to solve complex manufacturing and business problems to operationalize outcomes of analytics.
• Provides the primary point of communication in the plant for the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and develops proof-of-concept for proposed solutions.

• Collaborates with other Digital Engineers in rolling-out successful solutions to other plants.
• Constantly improves his/hers knowledge of the business and advanced analytics field in general.
• Takes into account the structure of the project environment, created by the head of advanced analytics in order to provide feasible items in a timely manner and to constantly update the development of key project phases.
• A key responsibility of the position is to successfully communicate with both clients and customers of the projects so that they connect to the body of work and feel comfortable using it. The communication will include detailed documentation of the programming effort as well as significant participation in project reviews with various management teams.
• While performing his/her duties, he/she adheres to all performance policies relating to the requirements concerning occupational health and safety, fire safety and environment protection, quality, energy management and consistent use of personal protection equipment.
• Training of PI System for users in the plants.
• Creating analyses and reports from the plant information system (OSI PI and SQL DB).
• Supporting the plants in case of operational problems with the PI system.
• Support Plant OSI PI champions to develop systems that sustain change with dynamic interactive reporting.
• Maintain the MES hardware infrastructure developed to manage the Data Analytics and AI technologies implemented at the plants.
• Coordinate activities with the IT department and the interaction with the SAP/MES systems.

• Fluent in Python (pandas, dask, panel, matplotlib, numpy, seaborn, scikit, keras, tensorflow).
• Intermediate experience of machine learning and statistics.
• Preferably knowledge / experience of Angular / Electron /Javascript/C#.
• Intermediate knowledge of SQL.
• Intermediate knowledge of Computer Vision and systems.
• Good understanding of conda package manager and conda environments.
• Basic bash scripting capabilities.
• Understanding basic concepts of source control (Git).
• Understanding basic concepts of software development.
• Understand the process of realizing a problem, designing hypothetical solutions, developing proof of concepts, and launching project initiatives.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA scripts.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA scripts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English, German optional - as a plus).
